Airborne Networks – Next Generation Wireless Networks

IP-Config is delighted to announce their latest client, successful start-up Airborne Networks.  HQ’d in Exeter in the UK, Airborne Networks have developed and patented the self-powered Structured Mesh architecture designed to help make 4G mobile networks a reality.

Increasing demand for “Always On” mobile device connections available anywhere and at low cost to the user, is placing increasing demands on wireless networks to enhance their coverage and data capacity.  Providing this enhanced coverage and capacity with standard cellular architecture is expensive and inflexible.

Shaped by conversations with global network operators, the Airborne Networks solution supports what they term ‘demand led deployment’.  By giving network operators the flexibility to deploy the most cost-effective mix of wireless standards in a single base station (WiMax, WiFi, 3G Cellular), Airborne Networks are delivering high bandwidth, cost-effective network access as close as possible to the end user, ensuring better quality of service and increased battery life for devices Typically, the WiMax Structured Mesh solution delivers approximately 40% savings per site in urban areas, and up to 80% savings in rural locations, compared to alternative infrastructure options.

Their WiMax Structured Mesh offering includes the Airborne Evolution base station (combined radio transmitter and antenna system) which is small and light enough to be easily fixed to street furniture or disguised as building features and can be deployed with wired or wireless backhaul, eliminating ‘black spots’ in urban environments, and allowing far greater reach in isolated rural settings at significantly less cost than conventional base stations.

An additional advantage of the WiMax Structured Mesh solution is its green technology credentials.  Using low power components which take advantage of the latest solar and wind power technologies, Airborne Networks overcome the issue of setting up networks in areas where access to a reliable source of electricity is lacking.

Just some of the applications of the WiMax Structured Mesh technology include municipal and national network settings such as traffic control and the emergency services, CCTV requirements, and school networks where the growth of online learning resources and the necessity for everyone to have access to education regardless of where they live, are driving up the demand for fast, flexible and reliable mobile internet and VoIP services.

Stephen Moore of IP-Config stated “We are very excited about our new relationship with Airborne Networks.  WiMax Mesh architecture is set to become a key part of mobile communications and media infrastructure and we look forward to working with Airborne Networks to deliver their unique, patented platform across the country.  The potential for growth and the ability to transform the future of communications networks is tremendous.”

“The Company is on the verge of real expansion now as we look to take our solution to the next level.” Said Steve Webber, CEO at Airborne Networks, “IP-Config are just the people to help us to do this because of their background experience, helping us to grow but with the right structure and process to mitigate risks along the way. We shall benefit from IP-Config’s shrewd financial advice and excellent connections.  We know that we have a way to go yet, but believe in our solution and are determined to succeed!”
